Questions

The things you’re probably wondering. Ask us anything else — this list grows as questions come in.

Where do I fly into?

Bozeman Yellowstone International (BZN)for the start of the trip. From there it’s about a 1-hour transfer south to Big Sky.

Where do I depart from?

Two options at the end of the trip:
  • HLN (Helena) — closest to Orofino, but flights require a connection (typically through Salt Lake City or Denver).
  • BZN (Bozeman) — ~1.5 hr drive from Orofino, but has direct flights to most major cities. Worth it for anyone wanting a same-day arrival home.
We can coordinate group transfers either way — let us know your preference when you RSVP.

Should I rent a car?

Yes.

What should I pack?

Layers. Big Sky sits at ~7,500 ft — days hit the 70s but evenings drop into the 40s. A fleece or shell is non-optional. At Orofino, days are hot (80s) and nights are cool (50s).

Bring: sturdy walking/hiking shoes, a swimsuit (hot tub + lake), sunscreen, a hat, a light rain layer for afternoon thunderstorms, and something one-step-nicer for the bigger dinners. Western boots are encouraged but not required.

Will my kids have fun?

Designed for it. At Orofino alone there’s sapphire mining, archery, dune buggies, a fishing pond, mountain bikes, a mechanical bull, field-day games, firepits, and an outdoor movie under the stars. Big Sky adds horseback riding, the Lone Peak tram, ziplining, ropes course, and (for the brave) whitewater rafting.

Will there be swag?

Obviously.Custom MVP > MT pieces, ready when you arrive. Cowboy hat is BYO.

Will there be competition?

Obviously. Field-day Olympics, mechanical-bull rankings, and rafting bragging rights to settle. Trophies TBD but inevitable.
